What is it that makes wine so fascinating?
Wine has been produced by man probably for about 10000 years - that's right, ten-thousand years - and it never ceases to please and amaze its drinkers. (And disgust some as well...) Why?
1. How can something so simple as a single species of berry, the Vitis Vinifera, produce this enormous variety of bouquet and taste?
2. The altered consciousness! Most certainly a big factor. Wine has been used for social and religious purposes since the beginning.
When we built our house, we decided to have only a small cellar under the kitchen. And the main purpose was to use it as a wine cellar. Then it took quite a few years before I got to really finish it.
First of all, the room turned out to be much to warm for long term storage of wine. So I needed to insulate the room, install an insulated door and a cooler. Then I needed shelves, and I decided to build them myself. It took quite a bit of work, but once it was finished, I was pretty pleased with the result.
